Dropbox is a popular service when it comes to personal cloud storage. Many Windows PC and smartphone users choose Dropbox as the primary location to save their data. When a user installs the Dropbox app on his PC, a new entry Move to Dropbox is added to explorer context menu.
This option proves handy for users who use the service on a regular basis, as it uploads the file and automatically synchronizes it to the corresponding Dropbox account on the web without having to open the Dropbox client. Some users, not using this option too often, may want to remove this Move to Dropbox entry from the context menu. There is no option given under Dropbox settings to hide or remove it.
The steps outlined in the article will help you remove the Move to Dropbox integration with Windows File Explorer right-click context menu in Windows 10/8/7.
Remove Move to Dropbox from Context Menu
1] First, right-click on the Dropbox icon in the system tray, click on the Settings icon in the top right-hand corner and select the Exit Dropbox option.
Next, go to the shortcut created on the computer screen and right-click on the Dropbox shortcut, and choose Properties.
Select the Shortcut tab and later, click on Target box. Add move-to-dropbox=False switch at the end of the default target text.
Finally, click the Apply button.
You will notice that he has summarized each topic in his own way.or what I did for 70-298I strongly encourage you to do a blog similar to what Joseph did and to post the link here for other to find.BTW if I had to pick one of these, I would pick the CBT Nuggets only because I have meet Greg before.http://www.enhansoft.com/. Here are two example:The one thing that I like about this blog set is how he followed the Skills Measured outline. Microsoft 70 243. Writing blog post on the subject is a great way to learn and get feedback.
Now launch Dropbox by double-clicking on the desktop icon. Right-click on any file or folder. You will not see the Move to Dropbox option in the context menu.
2] You could also unregister the concerned DLL file, DropboxExt.22.dll file which is responsible for its integration, located here:
C:UsersusenameAppDataRoamingDropboxbin
Open a command prompt windows, type the following and hit Enter:
regsvr32 /u “C:UsersusernameAppDataRoamingDropboxbinDropboxExt.22.dll”
Remove Dropbox From Windows Explorer Free
The context menu item should disappear.
3] You can also use context menu editors like CCleaner, Right-Click Extender, Context Menu Editor, Ultimate Windows Customizer, etc, to remove or disable this context menu item.
Dropbox context menu missing or not working
On the other hand, if you find that your Dropbox context menu item is missing or not working, try the following.
Re-register the concerned DLL fileDropboxExt.22.dll file which is responsible for its integration.
Open a command prompt windows, type the following and hit Enter:
regsvr32 “C:UsersusernameAppDataRoamingDropboxbinDropboxExt.22.dll”
If this does not work, you may need to repair or reinstall the Dropbox software.

I run the excellent Autoruns regularly to block programs, services, drivers and whatnot from starting automatically on the system.
While I do take good care of that usually during installation, there are always situations where programs are added to the autostart without me having any control over that process.
While I could run something like WinPatrol to be notified about important system changes, I don't usually for a variety of reasons.
Dropbox has been notorious for adding itself to the autostart and it took me a while to figure out what is going on.
It is easy enough to disable Dropbox in a startup manager or directly in the Windows Registry. You find Dropbox's entry under C:UsersusernameAppDataRoamingMicrosoftWindowsStart MenuProgramsStartup in the Registry and can either use the Registry Editor or a third-party program to disable or delete it.
What you may notice however is that this is not a permanent fix as Dropbox may be started with the system again at a later point in time.
When exactly? After you ran the software the next time.
The issue here is that Dropbox adds itself to the startup folder again regardless of whether it is already in there disabled or has been deleted before.
The reason for doing so is that it prioritizes the startup setting in the program preferences over those made manually.
That's right; if you delete or disable Dropbox manually on the system and not in the Dropbox preferences, it will be re-added every time you run the Dropbox application on the device.
How to stop Dropbox permanently from autostarting on Windows
To disable this permanently, do the following:
- Start Dropbox if you have not done so already.
- Left-click on the program icon in the system tray.
- When the window opens, click on the settings icon near the top right corner and there on preferences.
- Locate 'Start Dropbox on system startup' and remove the checkmark from the box.
- Click apply and ok.
When you start Dropbox the next time on the system -- manually as it won't autostart anymore -- you will notice that it won't add itself to the system autostart anymore.
